Producing video content to promote your personal brand, business and purpose is an excellent way to get noticed! Vlogging is a powerful option to bring personality and authenticity to your videos. Although most people still associate video production with sitting down at their computer, the power of modern smartphones means that recording and editing your vlog on the go as never been so easy! Here I want to share with you the top Vlogging apps for iPhone. There are some crackers!

I help people create video content that can amplify their business brand or purpose. When I have an initial consultation with people there are two excuses that regularly come up…

The two excuses stopping people from vlogging

When I work with professionals there’s a huge range of reasons why they don’t want to or feel like they can’t produce video content. It often comes down to one of two reasons:

  1. Imposter syndrome – feeling like they have nothing of value to add or that people will think they are a fraud!
  2. Technical capabilities – This comes in a couple of flavors. The first being that people believe they lack the skills to edit their content. The second is that they “don’t have the time” to edit content.

The truth is that both of these issues are easily overcome once you align your purpose with your content strategy.

Creating content to progress your purpose is the best killer of imposter syndrome. As your thought process goes from “why would anyone believe me” to “it’s another more opportunity to help people”.

And then, the technical capabilities are easier to acquire than ever before. Check out my recommended tools for vlog editing. If these services are still too expensive there’s a wide range of apps that you can use to produce your vlogs and video content.

These apps will allow you to produce video content with just your smartphone. But be warned – the message is the most important parts of the video not how fancy you can make it look!

Vlogging is more than fancy editing! How to structure your video

Even though we have covered the vlogging apps that you could use to record your vlog – that is not the most important thing!

Here are the things you should include in your vlog to make sure that you are being valuable to your audience!

The topic or theme

Each video should only be about one idea or concept. For content ideas, you can look at recent news and popular topics on a question and answer sites such as Quora and Reddit (look for a subreddit in your specialty). I’ve had huge success in using Anser the public and I talked about this in one of my LinkedIn vlogs:

The hook

The hook is the one reason someone would watch the video and should be an unresolved question or statement that provides intrigue.

This will be the first 5 seconds of your video. You can choose to have a title slide with the hook written on it but is best if it is a piece to camera. Look at the problems that your customers are facing for inspiration.

The problem you are solving

This is linked to the hook and topic but being crystal clear on the problem that you are talking about in the video will help when you come to record. Can the problem be broken down into smaller problems that would make a better, more focused, video?

Solution or question

This is where you’d be able to share your expertise to answer the question. I’ve also had great success by asking a question to my audience.

Call to action

Every video needs a call to action – this is where you ask the audience to do something like, comment to let you know that they think, hit the like button…keep the request simple and limited to a request that can be performed on the platform you are using – this will drive engagement and provide a boost to your video reach.
